Prepare to stop when lights flashing
What it means
Posted before some signalized intersections. When its yellow lights flash, the traffic signal ahead is about to turn yellow or red, or is already red, so prepare to stop.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow rectangular sign with a small traffic-signal symbol in the centre and a yellow light at each end.
Where you will see it
In advance of some intersections with traffic control signals, far enough back to give time to slow down.
What to do when you see it
- 1.When its lights are flashing, slow down and prepare to stop: the signal ahead is turning from green to yellow or from yellow to red, or is already red.
- 2.When its lights are dark, carry on with normal care and still watch the signal as you approach it.
On the knowledge test
The key word is flashing: flashing yellow lights on this sign mean the light ahead will not be green when you get there. You do not stop at the sign itself.
