Traffic control signals ahead
What it means
Traffic lights are ahead. Slow down and be prepared to stop if they are red or about to change.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black traffic-signal head: red lens at the top, yellow in the centre, green at the bottom.
Where you will see it
Before an intersection with traffic control signals that is hidden by a curve or a hill, or that drivers would not expect on that stretch of road.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and find the signal as early as you can, so a change of light does not surprise you.
- 2.If the light is green, expect it to turn yellow; be ready to stop if it changes and you can stop safely.
On the knowledge test
The answer is always “signals ahead, be prepared to stop”. Keep it apart from the rectangular sign whose yellow lights flash: that one says the light ahead is already changing or red.
