What it means
Give the right-of-way to traffic that is not facing the sign, and to every pedestrian waiting to cross or already in the crosswalk or intersection. Slow down, and stop if necessary.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

How to recognise it
A triangle pointing down, with a white centre and a wide red border.
Where you will see it
Intersections and junctions where your road must give way to the other road, but a full stop is not always needed.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and be prepared to stop.
- 2.Give the right-of-way to traffic not facing the sign and to every pedestrian waiting to cross or already in the crosswalk or intersection.
- 3.If there is no one to yield to, you may continue without coming to a full stop.
On the knowledge test
The wrong answer says a yield sign always means stop. It means give up the right-of-way, stopping only if you must, and it covers pedestrians as well as vehicles.
