Playground area
What it means
A playground sign with no speed sign attached marks a playground area. There is no special speed limit, but children may be nearby, so drive with extra care.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Alberta Driver’s Guide. Read the original: Traffic control ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond showing a child running after a ball, with no speed sign attached.
Where you will see it
Near playgrounds and parks where no reduced speed zone has been set.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Drive with extra care: children may be nearby and may run into the road.
- 2.Be ready to slow down or stop; the normal speed limit still applies.
On the knowledge test
Like a school area, a playground area only asks for caution. The speed tab is what turns it into a zone with a limit.
