Alberta highway route marker
What it means
The number on the shield identifies a provincial highway. Local roads usually carry a name, a township road or a range road number instead.
Green, blue and brown signs give directions, distances and services.

How to recognise it
A white shield outlined in black with the highway number in large black figures and 'Alberta' written above it.
Where you will see it
Along provincial highways and at the junctions that lead onto them.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Use the number to confirm you are on the provincial highway you planned to take.
- 2.Watch for the marker at junctions to choose the right turn or exit in good time.

A provincial highway is identified by a single-digit, two-digit or three-digit route marker. A local road usually has none: it is known by a name, a township road or a range road.
