What it means
Do not drive past this sign: the road or ramp ahead is closed to traffic from this direction.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

How to recognise it
A white square holding a solid red circle crossed by a white horizontal bar. There is no diagonal slash.
Where you will see it
The exit end of one-way roads and of highway ramps, where entering would put you against traffic.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not drive past the sign.
- 2.Choose another road or entrance that allows traffic in your direction.
On the knowledge test
Picture questions show the red circle with a white bar. Pick 'do not enter', not a general prohibition: the prohibitive signs use a red circle and diagonal bar over a symbol.
