Advisory speed for a curve
What it means
The yellow tab under a curve sign gives the recommended maximum speed for that curve in ideal conditions. Drive slower when the road is wet, icy or dark.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A small yellow square tab with a black speed and “km/h”, mounted under a curve or turn warning sign.
Where you will see it
Under curve and turn warning signs. A similar speed sign under a railway advance warning sign gives the recommended speed for the crossing.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Be down to the tab’s speed before the curve begins, not halfway round it.
- 2.Treat it as the most you should do in ideal conditions; drive slower on a wet or icy road, at night or in poor visibility.
On the knowledge test
The test checks that you know this is a recommended maximum under ideal conditions, not the legal speed limit. Any speed that is unsafe for the conditions is illegal, whatever the sign says.
