Flashing red light
What it means
Treat it like a stop sign: stop before the stop line, crosswalk or intersection, yield the right-of-way, and go only when it is safe. When every direction flashes red, the intersection is a four-way stop.

How to recognise it
The red lens flashing on and off.
Where you will see it
Intersections where the signal flashes red instead of cycling, for one direction or for all of them.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Stop before the stop line or crosswalk, or before the intersection if there is neither.
- 2.Yield the right-of-way, then go only when it is safe, exactly as at a stop sign.
On the knowledge test
Treat it like a stop sign. When the lights in all directions flash red, the intersection becomes a four-way stop.
