Detour
What it means
Traffic is being routed around a closed section of road for the distance shown. Follow the detour signs.
Orange signs mark construction zones and other temporary conditions.

How to recognise it
An orange diamond with the word DETOUR, an arrow, and the length of the detour in kilometres.
Where you will see it
Where a road is closed for construction and traffic is routed onto other roads.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Follow the detour signs around the closed section instead of your usual route.
- 2.Note the distance shown, so you know how far the detour runs before you rejoin the road.
On the knowledge test
The guide's version reads 'detour next ___ km': the number tells you how long the detour is, not a speed.
